If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for a good workout or fitness studio that meets your needs when you’re travelling to a new city. Of course, there’s no need to worry in places like Hong Kong or New York, since there are infinite classes around town offering the hottest new workout trends to help you break a sweat. Hip hop yoga while listening to some Drake? Sign me up!
Unfortunately, in Japan (and especially Kyoto), it’s so much harder to find casual, one-off classes. You either have to have a lifelong membership or you’re inked up, which means you might find yourself banned from stepping foot in a Japanese gym. It’s always been such a shame for me to see clients missing out on a good sweat session while they were staying here. When you’re planning to enjoy all the amazing food Kyoto has to offer is exactly when you want to make sure you’re able to work off those inevitable green tea ice creams!
That’s why it gives me the greatest pleasure to offer my clients a personal training session as part of the Curated Kyoto experience… Even if it means I have to share my own personal trainer with you all!
My personal trainer Francis and I have come up with some workouts you can do while also enjoying the beautiful outdoors, such as running through Kyoto’s scenic locations and high-intensity exercise in the park. Whether you’re a beginner or an “I workout day and night, seven times a week” fitness fanatic, the session can easily be adjusted to match your level!
“Kyoto offers some of the most breathtaking spots for physical activity. From exercising along the famous Kamo River to running up historic temple steps, you’re guaranteed a unique and unforgettable experience.” – Francis
Francis, originally from London, is a certified trainer with clients in all different area codes as well as luxury hotels around Kyoto. As you can see from the photos, he certainly is “fit”… Especially since his passion is getting other people just as in-shape as he is! He still hasn’t managed to get me to quit chocolate, but I will drop and do fifteen push-ups if he tells me to!
